Saturday Slanguage: Foamer

A foamer is what most railroaders call people who have an strange, inexplicable attraction to anything on rails.  Being a foamer is not a bad thing, it is just rather strange to most railroaders.  Most railroaders spend enough time on and around trains that it is hard to understand why someone would want to hang around trains when they do not have to.  A foamer is most commonly found near a railroad right of way, armed with a camera and a radio scanner.  Usually they seem to have a better idea of what is going on than the employees!

A picture is worth a thousand words, so here is an example of a foamer.
