In the foreground is MBTA 10, one of two MP36PH-3C locomotives the railroad owns. The 10 and 11 were bought secondhand from Utah Transportation Authority because MBTA wanted to check them out. I guess they passed the test, because MBTA has placed an order for 20 more of them to be delivered by 2013. In the background, across the platform, is the Amtrak display train, lead by Amtrak's phase 3 heritage locomotive. The whole train is actually painted in the phase 3 scheme. All the equipment for this train was selected by hand from Beech Grove shop's deadline. The locomotive, the F40PH cab car, the 10-6 sleeper, the three baggage cars, and the Amfleet cafe car were all brought into the shop and extensively refurbished to be road worthy again and the baggage cars were reconfigured as display cars. All the cars then got the special paint scheme. The baggage cars and the 10-6 sleeper are ex-Santa Fe cars, the rest of the train was bought new by Amtrak.
If you haven't seen Amtrak's 40th anniversary train yet, I would highly recommend it. It is touring the country until April, and a schedule can be found online. Everything in the train is very interesting, and the best part is that it's free.
